Johan Fylling a179a24c48 v1 API
All packages, except for `cmd` and `internal`, have been moved into a new `v1` root package.

Old packages are kept for backwards-compatibility reasons. All contained code is replaced with simple type aliases and proxy functions to `v1` implementations.

Old packages default to the Rego v0 syntax, new `v1` packages default to the Rego v1 syntax.

Philip Conrad c5706eef7c server+util: Limit max request sizes, prealloc request buffers (#6868)
This commit introduces a few major changes:
 - (Breaking change) Limits now exist for maximum request body sizes.
 - Buffers are preallocated for reading request bodies.
 - Buffers are preallocated for decompressing request bodies.
 - Gzip decoder instances are reused in a `sync.Pool` across requests.

The effect on garbage collection is dramatically fewer GC pauses, giving
a roughly 9% RPS improvement in load tests with gzipped request bodies.
For larger request sizes, the number of GC pauses is dramatically
reduced, although the peak pause time may increase by a few percent.

Implementation notes:
 - The DecodingLimits handler enforces the max request body size both
   through a Content-Length check, and a MaxBytesReader wrapper around
   the payload.
 - The DecodingLimits handler passes the gzip payload size limit down
   using a context key.

aarnautu 38c997eef4 This change adds support to configurable prometheus buckets
http_request_duration has fixed, hardcoded number of buckets with no possibility to tweak them
For cases when the most of the latencies are above 1ms, with only 4 available buckets there's no good insight on OPA's performance.

This implementation:
- adds the possibility for the buckets to be configurable in ```server.metrics.prom.http_request_duration_seconds.buckets``` key
- it's not a breaking change, if the buckets are not present in the configuration, the metric is configured with the existing values as a fallback

Stephan Renatus ab7bead488 config: add extensible "Extra" field (#6056)
Previously, extra keys in the OPA config file would be ignored in the /v1/config
API, but included when evaluating `opa.runtime().config`.

With this change, they'll be collected into the Extra field, and included in the
response of an API call to `/v1/config`, too.

AdrianArnautu 9e97f98d12 This change allows the HTTP clients to consume and send gzip compressed response and request body. (#5696)
It is available for the following REST API endpoints:
- GET & POST HTTP methods on /v0/data & /v1/data endpoints
- POST HTTP method on /v1/compile endpoint

HTTP clients can optionally:
- send 'Accept-Encoding: gzip' header and expect a gzip compressed body and a Content-Encoding: gzip response header. The server will send the content encoded as gzip only after a threshold defined by server.encoding.gzip.min_length (default value is 1024). If the size is below the threshold, the body is not compressed
- send 'Content-Encoding: gzip' header and a gzip compressed body and expect the server to correctly interpret the request

Philip Conrad ac20ef2bf5 server+sdk+plugins: Integrate NDBCache into decision logging. (#5147)
This commit integrates the non-deterministic builtins caching system
into decision logging, both in the server and sdk packages. Some
reworking of the NDBCache's serialization format were required to
accommodate this. The feature is disabled by default, and must be
opted into by user configuration.

The feature can be enabled via a top-level config key:

    nd_builtin_cache=true

The NDBCache is exposed to the masking system under the
`/nd_builtin_cache` path, which allows masking or dropping sensitive
values from decision logs selectively.

Note: If a decision log event exceeds the `upload_size_limit_bytes`
value for the OPA instance, OPA will reattempt uploading it, after
dropping the NDBCache from the event. This behavior will trigger a log
error, and will increment the `decision_logs_nd_builtin_cache_dropped`
metrics counter.

Stephan Renatus 516dd47dd1 runtime+storage: integrate disk storage
With this change, the disk backend (badger) becomes available for
use with the OPA runtime properly:

It can be configured using the `storage.disk` key in OPA's config
(see included documentation).

When enabled,
- any data or policies stored with OPA will persist over restarts
- per-query metrics related to disk usage are reported
- Prometheus metrics per storage operation are exported

The main intention behind this feature is to optimize memory usage:
OPA can now operate on more data than fits into the allotted memory
resources. It is NOT meant to be used as a primary source of truth:
there are no backup/restore or desaster recovery procedures -- you
MUST secure the means to restore the data stored with OPA's disk
storage by yourself.

See also #4014. Future improvements around bundle loading are
planned.

Some notes on details:

storage/disk: impose same locking regime used with inmem

With this setup, we'll ensure:

- there is only one open write txn at a time
- there are any number of open read txns at a time
- writes are blocked when reads are inflight
- during a commit (and triggers being run), no read txns can be created

This is to ensure the same atomic policy update semantics when using
'disk" as we have with "inmem". We're basically opting out of badger's
currency control and transactionality guarantees. This is because we
cannot piggy back on that to ensure the atomic update we want.

There might be other ways -- using subscribers, and blocking in some
other place -- but this one seems preferrable since it mirrors inmem.

Part of the problem is ErrTxnTooLarge, and committing and renewing
txns when it occurs: that, which is the prescribed solution to txns
growing too big, also means that reads can see half of the "logical"
transaction having been committed, while the rest is still getting
processed.

Another approach would have been using `WriteBatch`, but that won't
let us read from the batch, only apply Set and Delete operations.
We currently need to read (via an iterator) to figure out if we
need to delete keys to replace something in the store.  There is
no DropPrefix operation on the badger txn, or the WriteBatch API.

storage/disk: remove commit-and-renew-txn code for txn-too-big errors

This would break transactional guarantees we care about: while there
can be only one write transaction at a time, read transactions may
happen while a write txn is underway -- with this commit-and-reset
logic, those would read partial data.

Now, the error will be returned to the caller. The maximum txn size
depends on the size of memtables, and could be tweaked manually.
In general, the caller should try to push multiple smaller increments
of the data.

storage/disk: implement noop MakeDir

The MakeDir operation as implemented in the backend-agnostic storage
code has become an issue with the disk store: to write /foo/bar/baz,
we'd have to read /foo (among other subdirs), and that can be _much_
work for the disk backend. With inmem, it's cheap, so this wasn't
problematic before.

Some of the storage/disk/txn.go logic had to be adjusted to properly
do the MakeDir steps implicitly.

The index argument addition to patch() in storage/disk/txn.go was
necessary to keep the error messages conforming to the previous
code path: previously, conflicts (arrays indexed as objects) would
be surfaced in the MakeDir step, now it's entangled with the patch
calculation.

storage/disk: check ctx.Err() in List/Get operations

This won't abort reading a single key, but it will abort iterations.

storage/disk: support patterns in partitions

There is a potential clash here: "*", the path wildcard, is
a valid path section. However, it only affects the case when
a user would want to have a partition at

    /foo/*/bar

and would really mean "*", and not the wildcard.

Storing data at /foo/*/bar with a literal "*" won't be treated
differently than storing something at /fo/xyz/bar.

storage/disk: keep per-txn-type histograms of stats

This is done by reading off the metrics on commit, and shovelling
their numbers into the prometheus collector.

NOTE: if you were to share a metrics object among multiple transactions,
the results would be skewed, as it's not reset. However, our server
handlers don't do that.

storage/disk: opt out of badger's conflict detection

With only one write transaction in flight at any time, the situation
that badger guards against cannot happen:

A transaction has written to a key after the current, to-be-committed
transaction has last read that key from the store.

Since it can't happen, we can ignore the bookkeeping involved. This
improves the time it takes to overwrite existing keys.

Torin Sandall b5212fcecc plugins/discovery: Improve error message about prohibited config
Previously the discovery plugin would just log a generic error if any
plugins were enabled. With this commit, it will log an error that
mentions which plugins were enabled, making the source of the problem
a bit more obvious.

Anders Eknert 635d8a52d8 Configurable persistence_directory
This allows configuring the persistence_directory OPA should use for persisting
bundles to disk. While this currently only covers bundles I didn't want to close
the door for persisting other type of objects later, so the
persistence_directory option is kept at the top level of the configuration,
defaulting to $PWD/.opa if not provided.

Bundles will be persisted to ${persistence_directory}/bundles.

Ashutosh Narkar 7f65b04561 Add a new inter-query cache to cache responses across queries
This commit adds a new inter-query cache that built-in
functions can use to cache responses across queries.

The OPA config includes a new "caching" field that can be used
to set the size of the cache. By default there is no limit.

This change also updates `http.send` to optionally utilize the
inter-query cache.

Ashutosh Narkar 338583c18a Add support for OPA bundle signatures
These changes add support for digital signatures for policy bundles which
can be used to verify their authenticity.

Bundle signature verification involves the following steps:

* Verify the JWT signature
* Verify the files in the JWT payload exist in the bundle
* Verify the file content of the files in bundle match with those in the payload

This commit adds a new `sign` command to generate a digital signature for policy bundles.

For more details, run "opa sign --help"

The signatures generated by the 'sign' command can be verified by the
'build' command. The 'build' command can also sign the bundle it generates.

The 'run' command can verify a signed bundle or skip verification altogether.

OPA 'sign', 'build' and 'run' can be used to
sign/verify bundles in bundle mode (--bundle) mode only. Verification
can be also be performed when bundle downloading is enabled.

Torin Sandall b0523466c1 Refactor metric provider implementation
* Remove metric provider config to avoid introducing new public
  interfaces. Since there is only one provider (prometheus) and it
  doesn't have any configurable settings, remove the configuration
  changes for now. We can always add these in the future.

* Remove dummy metric provider implementation. This isn't needed now
  that we're using the metrics.Metrics interface instead of
  metrics.GlobalMetrics.

* Remove metrics.GlobalMetrics in favour of metrics.Metrics. Move the
  HTTP handler instrumentation interfaces into the server package to
  avoid coupling the metrics package to the net/http package.

* Refactor the prometheus provider to implement the metrics.Metrics
  interface. Since the prometheus registry can error on Gather()
  calls, the provider has been updated to accept a logger and use ti
  when the Gather() call fails. This doesn't affect any public
  interfaces so it can be revisited in future if needed. Alteratnively
  we could add a Gather() interface onto metrics.Metrics which could
  return the error.

* Refactor status plugin to include metrics in status update by
  default. Users implementing the status API are likely to need
  performance metrics to gauge the OPA's health. Moreover if they are
  implementing the status API it's unlikely they will want to poll the
  /metrics endpoint on the OPA HTTP API (which may not even be
  exposed.)

* Move the prometheus endpoint test case into the e2e package so the
  server package has no dependencies on prometheus anymore.

Stan Lagun 69fbaacfde Add Prometheus metrics to the status updates
Prometheus metrics can give much of insight into OPA's health.
Run-time metrics are a natural part of the application state
so having them in status update seems like a right change
that can help server understand what's going in with the OPA
instance.

The commit also encapsulates all prometheus-related code in one package
and abstracts it with generic interface so that it would be possible
to add other metrics providers

Patrick East 346aa964e8 Add support for multiple bundles
This change brings in support for multiple bundles to be downloaded
and activated OPA.

This is enabled by using the new config option `bundles` to define
the bundles, and deprecates the older `bundle` option.

The new `bundles` keyword and structure is propagated through to the
decision logs, status API, provenance, stored manifests, etc. Check
out the doc changes for all the updated structures.

That being said any existing configuration using `bundle` will *not*
see the new structure, everything is intended to be backwards
compatible (almost to a fault).

Torin Sandall 2d425494aa Refactor discovery implementation
These changes refactor the discovery implementation a bit to improve
test coverage and remove duplication of common logic shared with the
bundle plugin.

Specifically, the downloading logic has been moved into a separate
package that is shared by bundle and discovery. Second, test coverage in
the discovery implementation is increased from ~15% to ~85%.

These changes also include a few functional improvements:

- The default decision paths can be updated dynamically
- The decision logger can be enabled dynamically
- Discovery downloading errors are reported in status updates
- Discovery bundle is evaluated with all runtime params
- Custom plugins can be created dynamically
- Status updates include both discovery and bundle status
