Peter Steinberger b9d0e13b5d fix(agents): share one delegation policy across agent runtimes (#125892)
The `## Delegation` guidance added in #125691 lived only in
buildAgentSystemPrompt, so Codex-runtime agents never received it: the
Codex harness builds its own developer instructions in
extensions/codex/src/app-server/thread-prompt.ts and imports nothing
from the system-prompt builders. Live A/B on gpt-5.6-luna had the native
runtime answer "spawn a visible session" while the Codex runtime
answered "spawn a hidden subagent".

Move the policy into src/agents/delegation-guidance.ts, owning both the
main-session mode resolver and the section text, and export it through
the agent-harness plugin SDK barrel that the Codex harness already uses.
The hidden-delegation vocabulary is injected by each runtime, so core
never names a plugin-owned tool: native passes `sessions_spawn`, Codex
passes native `spawn_agent`. Visible sessions stay `sessions_spawn`
with visible=true on both runtimes because Codex-native children are
never OpenClaw sessions.

Also narrows the Codex line that told the model to use `sessions_spawn`
only for OpenClaw/ACP delegation; it now scopes that to internal
legwork, so user-facing deliverables still route to a visible session.

Peter Steinberger 7f0a87de1d feat(agents): eager delegation default in the main session + coalesced session-state wakes (#125691)
* feat(agents): default to eager delegation in the main session

The delegation prompt section now defaults to "prefer" in each agent's
canonical main session and "suggest" elsewhere; explicit config wins in
both directions. The section is rewritten to be token-leaner and now
covers the hidden-vs-visible spawn distinction (hidden subagents are
invisible and auto-archived; deliverable-bearing work spawns
visible=true and replies with the link) plus the run-end notification
contract. The Messaging spawn-mechanics line is suppressed when the
Delegation section renders, and the stable Tooling visible:true hint is
aligned with the new guidance.

* perf(sessions): coalesce session-state wake bursts

Watched-session change notices woke the watcher's main session with the
generic 250ms heartbeat coalesce, so a burst of changes across several
watched sessions produced one wake per change. Wakes now coalesce for
20s; notices are already queued and deduped, so none are lost.

* test(agents): regenerate prompt snapshots after rebase

* test(sessions,agents): update sibling assertions for coalesced wakes and visible guidance

session-state-events tests advance timers past the new 20s wake
coalesce window; the sessions_spawn schema test tracks the updated
visible description.

Ayaan Zaidi dfcef3a28f fix: Claude CLI subagent thinking and tool calls leak into the parent turn (#125621)
Claude Code forwards Agent-tool subagent records with parent_tool_use_id set; the streaming parser treated them as parent records, so subagent thinking streamed as the assistant's reasoning and subagent tool calls surfaced as unattributed top-level tool events. Gate the thinking/tool dispatchers and assistant-snapshot path on one shared isClaudeSubagentRecord guard.

Also read Claude result errors[] (skipping [ede_diagnostic] telemetry) for every error result instead of reporting only the subtype name.

Fixture: live Claude Code 2.1.234 stream-json capture with a background Explore subagent. Telegram E2E on the claude-cli backend shows the progress draft with only the parent Agent row.

* feat(agents): unify agent status into a durable progress_card

Replace the write-only update_plan to-do tool and the fragmented plan
rendering with one durable status artifact per session: progress_card
({plan?, markdown?}, replace-on-write, 8 KiB markdown / 50-step caps).
Cards persist in a lazy-additive session_progress_cards table in the
per-agent DB (no schema-version bump), broadcast progressCard.changed,
and render from the store with exactly one live placement per view
(session rail when visible, else the composer-adjacent bar); transcripts
collapse to one-line receipts, and the sidebar hovercard shows other
sessions' cards inline (markdown + <progress>, DOMPurify allowlist, no
iframes). The three stream-derived plan renderers and their dedup
heuristics are deleted.

Codex runs disable the native plan tool per thread
(tools.update_plan.enabled=false) and receive progress_card via the
dynamic-tool bridge; compaction restore now reinjects the card (steps +
bounded markdown). Card writes still emit the legacy plan stream event so
native apps and channels keep working until their per-platform
migrations. Policy names map update_plan -> progress_card; the shipped
tools.updatePlan=false kill switch is honored.

Net -277 production LOC; -480 test LOC.

* feat(sessions): stamp agent identity on spawned sessions and return spawn receipts

Agent-spawned sessions recorded the requesting session key as createdActor.id,
so the Control UI creator chip rendered an opaque key. Spawn producers now stamp
the canonical requester agent id; parent-authority validation moves to a new
trusted requesterSessionKey field. projectSessionActor enriches agent actors
with configured identity name/avatar at read time, and visible sessions_spawn
returns a sessionUrl + owner receipt with URL-first acknowledgement guidance.

* feat(sessions): assignable session ownership with owner facet and menus

GitHub-assignee-style ownership: sessions get a mutable owner (defaulting to
the immutable createdActor) stored in additive bare-nullable SQLite columns
with first-use lazy ensure. New operator.write sessions.assignOwner validates
targets, requires an identified caller, authorizes by session visibility, and
records assignedBy/assignedAt inside the write transaction. The sessions agent
tool gains assign_owner; the Control UI adds Assign-to-me/Assign-to menus in
sidebar rows and chat headers, renders the effective owner chip, and the
creator facet/filter now keys on effective owner. Sharing authority stays
anchored on createdActor.

* feat(sessions): record session participants and stack them in the owner chip

Records every distinct external prompter (human profile/channel sender, or a
requesting agent) per session in an additive session_participants table at the
turn-admission boundary — best-effort, deferred, never blocking the turn; the
session's own agent and viewers are never recorded, capped at 32 per session.
The session row projects a bounded participants list (owner excluded) plus a
total count with the same actor enrichment as owner/createdActor. The sidebar
chip becomes a pair-stack when others have prompted (owner front, one peeking
participant or +N behind), the chat header shows the full facepile, and an
authenticated involvingMe list filter adds an Involving-me sidebar predicate.
Participant projection is excluded from logical-session CAS equality so display
history never invalidates session writes.

* fix(sessions): identify built-in agent tool callers for owner assignment

The sessions tool's assign_owner dispatched through the in-process synthetic
client, which carries neither a signed agent-runtime identity nor a human
profile, so agent-initiated reassignment always failed with FORBIDDEN. The
tool now captures its trusted requester agent identity and carries it across
in-process dispatch as internal client state (never wire params); the handler
derives assignedBy as signed runtime identity, then trusted agent-tool caller,
then authenticated human. Live-verified end-to-end on a dev gateway.

* fix(ci): split oversized session modules and refresh prompt snapshots

Split the max-lines offenders at concept boundaries for session equality, tool overrides, and protocol owner schemas. Remove the redundant Number conversion from the node:sqlite participant count. Refresh prompt snapshots after drift from the sessions and sessions_spawn tool description updates.

* fix(ci): restore solo-mode chip suppression and conform new method descriptors

Solo-mode root cause: owner-assignment submenu options reused the permanent owner-chip custom element, so hidden menu avatars were counted as attribution chrome. Menus now use viewer avatars while gateway-gated owner chips remain exclusive to collaborative sessions.

Conform sessions.assignOwner to the 2026.8 descriptor and append-only advertised-method inventories, and regenerate the Swift and Kotlin protocol surfaces.

Keep historical v15/v14 fixtures frozen by stripping the new owner columns; the existing range already excludes the participant table. Replace the new raw SQLite schema probes with synchronous Kysely queries.

Clear max-lines by splitting the organizer host contract, pure agent-navigation projections, and ownership/filtering sidebar cases at their concept boundaries.

* fix(ci): integrate ownership series with latest main surfaces

Wire the sessions-page assign-owner action, merge capability imports, narrow the navigation export scope, and apply sessions-create formatting.

The owner-presence regression came from hidden assign-owner menu avatars emitting data-viewer-id, so owner and menu chrome now opt out of presence markers while real facepiles retain them.

* fix(sessions): scope the involving-me filter to profile-backed participants

Session participant history mixed channel-native sender ids with authenticated Gateway profile ids, so involving-me missed real sessions and could accept numeric collisions.

Record the actor_source namespace at each producer, carry it through the internal SQLite projection, and match authenticated viewers only against profile-backed human participants. Legacy NULL sources fail closed for filtering, while channel ids remain available for display.

* build(ui): raise startup budget baseline for session ownership surfaces

Ownership chips, assignment menus, and the participant stack add ~0.7 KiB
gzip to the startup path; CI compression landed just over the previous
baseline+tolerance. Hard cap (350 KiB) unchanged.

* refactor(sessions): drop raw NULL projection for the lazy actor_source column

The Kysely guardrail rejects typed raw sql snippets outside allowlisted
boundaries; select the lazily-ensured column only when present and let the
row projection treat its absence as unknown/legacy.

Condition watchers, script payloads, and stream schedules were gated behind
cron.triggers.enabled=false, so the capability shipped dark and the automations
tool told the model to call it unsupported.

The gate did not buy what its warning implied. cronJobUsesToolRuntime treats
agentTurn, script, and trigger.script identically for tool policy, and jobs are
capped to the creating agent's allowlist via creatorToolAllowlist -- but an
agentTurn cron job was never gated, so unattended recurring exec with that same
creator-capped authority was already reachable. The gated paths are strictly
tighter: a condition gate gets 30s, 5 tool calls, 16KB state and a 30s minimum
interval, where an agentTurn has no such budget. Sandboxing already applies to
trigger scripts, which resolve sandbox context and redirect the workspace when
access is not rw.

Absent config now means enabled; an explicit cron.triggers.enabled: false still
disables every surface it disabled before, and the error text names the opt-out
instead of telling operators to turn something on. No new config key, no
migration.

Docs: reword the trigger warning for default-on while keeping the unattended
execution note, and record the new default in the configuration reference.

* test(cron): refresh prompt snapshots for default-on triggers

Trigger, stream-schedule, and script-payload surfaces are now advertised in the
automations tool description by default, so the committed fixtures drift.

This also records the cost: dynamicToolsJson grows 49,477 -> 52,541 chars and
the snapshot total 76,861 -> 79,925 (~766 rough tokens per prompt). That is the
price of no longer dark-shipping the capability.

* test(mcp): expect trigger surfaces by default in the tools bridge

The MCP tools bridge mirrors the scheduler gate, so an absent cron.triggers
config now advertises the trigger surface. Explicit false still narrows it and
explicit true still widens it; both assertions are unchanged.

A structured voiceText-only send with no visible text returned unchanged from
the cold-runtime guard, so delivery normalized the empty payload to null and
the send silently vanished. The cold exit now applies the same visible

text when no other content exists.

Peekaboo matched an existing window ref on the whole WindowMutationIdentity,
which embeds capturedBounds and isMinimized. Any move, resize, or minimize
therefore minted a new ref for the same live window, never evicted the old
one, and let the old ref keep resolving to a stale ServiceWindowInfo whose
identity and bounds were then used as the per-action expectations, so the
operator saw a downstream mismatch instead of COMPUTER_STALE_OBSERVATION.

Window refs now key on stable identity only (WindowServer id plus the owner
process generation that guards pid reuse) and refresh the stored target in
place on every discovery, so one live window keeps one ref for the whole
lifecycle generation and later checks compare against current data. The
one-instantiation generic reference store is folded back into the service as
plain state plus small concrete helpers.

The shared case table gains window_moved, which both providers must satisfy,
and the Swift side now drives the real ComputerActionServiceV2 with real
Peekaboo values instead of a toy store with an equality matcher. Its
in-flight generation case runs a real perform() whose lifecycle is revoked
mid-action rather than throwing the error it asserted.

When cron.triggers.enabled is off (the documented default posture), the
cron tool still advertised job.trigger/patch.trigger, schedule.kind
"stream" with its stream-only fields, and payload.kind "script" — all of
which the scheduler unconditionally rejects. Schema-eager models attach
junk triggers to plain reminder requests, get rejected, and retry-loop
without ever creating the job.

Gate those surfaces on the resolved config so they are only advertised
when the runtime can actually accept them, and swap the trigger guidance
for a short unavailable notice so the model tells the user instead of
polling or silently degrading the request. Config-less construction
paths keep the full surface.

Peter Steinberger 9edc531244 perf(agents): ship one automations job schema for add and update (#121645)
The automations tool shipped two near-duplicate ~1.4k-token object schemas
(job for add, patch for update) in every prompt on the default tool path —
13,016 chars of tool schema, 88% of it the duplicated pair. One nullable
object schema now serves both actions (7,864 chars, ~1.3k tokens saved per
prompt): update reads the job parameter, and the add path strips null
clears before the strict gateway cron.add contract while preserving the
agentId/sessionKey nulls that cron.add accepts.

Fixes #121606

Rewrites every string the model or user sees that names the feature:
tool label and terminal presentation, display-summary preset, subagents
catalog description, heartbeat guidance, subagent prompt, session labels
(Cron: -> Automation:), default job name, unattended-run preamble, delivery
awareness text, task-ledger progress summary, failure alerts, auto-disable
notification, model preflight diagnostics, validation errors, and the
shipped workspace AGENTS.md template. Adds a system-prompt backstop rule on
the automations tool line: the feature is called automations, never cron.

Cron stays only where it names the schedule syntax ({kind:"cron"}, cron
expressions), config keys (cron.triggers.enabled), RPC method names, and
session-key namespaces. Test fixtures with legacy labels are kept as
stored-data coverage. Part of RFC openclaw/rfcs#50 Phase 1 (PR B).

* docs(templates): keep workspace template on the live docs anchor until the docs PR renames it

* fix(cron): rename remaining failure-notification producers and stale test expectations

Codex review follow-ups: the per-run failure notification (server-cron-
notifications) and the doctor legacy-notify advisory still said Cron job;

CI's extension-boundary runner holds stale tsgo incremental state whose
cached plugin-state-test-runtime.d.ts predates the keyed-store re-exports;
the freshness stamp validates it and reruns reuse the same sticky disk.
Touching the module forces incremental emit to regenerate the declaration.
Fresh builds of this head (local exact CI command and a forced Testbox
rebuild) both emit the exports correctly.

* fix(agents): rename residual model- and operator-facing cron prose

Found in combined dev-gateway E2E: fallback tool line still told models the
scheduler tool is cron; heartbeat scratch description, cron model preflight
rejection, doctor and Claw prose still said cron jobs.

* fix(agents): finish model-facing scheduler strings flagged in review

Loop work-order prompts, subagents tool description, cron-tool write errors,
and the headless exec denial label now say automations; loop builders covered
by prompt assertions; snapshots regenerated.

* refactor(agents): route scheduler tool-name consumers through canonical identity

Introduce AUTOMATIONS_TOOL_NAME + isAutomationsToolName() in
src/agents/tools/automations-tool-name.ts as the single source of truth for
the scheduler agent tool's name, and convert every exact-name consumer:
factory descriptors, deferred-followup availability detection, add-counting,
policy deny lists, mutation classification, trusted media set, tool catalog
id, system-prompt tool order and tool-line map, sandbox deny defaults,
delegation capability map, MCP loopback probes, and local-model lean deny.

Behavior-neutral: the constant still resolves to "cron". Prepares the
rename in RFC openclaw/rfcs#50 so the flip is a one-line change with no
scattered literals.

* feat(agents): rename scheduler agent tool cron -> automations

Flip AUTOMATIONS_TOOL_NAME to "automations" and register the legacy name:

- TOOL_NAME_ALIASES gains cron -> automations, so persisted toolsAllow/
  toolsDeny lists, tool groups, and creator allowlists written before the
  rename keep matching through the same shipped mechanism as bash -> exec.
  No doctor rewrite needed.
- isAutomationsToolName() accepts legacy names so saved transcripts keep
  their mutation/replay-safety classification; MUTATING_TOOL_NAMES retains
  the legacy entry for the same reason.
- Tool label, catalog label, and tool-search keywords follow the rename
  ("cron" kept as a search synonym).
- Regression tests cover old-name policy matching (allow and deny), legacy
  transcript replay classification, and legacy creator allowlists
  normalizing to the canonical id.

Model-facing description strings still say cron; those move in the
follow-up strings PR. Part of RFC openclaw/rfcs#50 Phase 1.

* test(agents): update creator-cap expectations for canonical automations id

The creator tool surface derives from normalized live tool names, so derived
toolsAllow outputs now emit "automations". Passthrough paths without a
creator cap keep storing user input verbatim; those expectations stay on the
legacy name as stored-data coverage.

* fix(gateway): canonicalize legacy cron tool calls and restore scheduler deny protection

Review follow-ups from ClawSweeper and Codex on the rename (RFC 0026):

- MCP loopback tools/call resolves legacy "cron" names to the published
  automations tool without re-advertising the old name in tools/list.
- Gateway /tools/invoke canonicalizes legacy names before core-id checks and
  exact-name dispatch, so pre-rename integrations keep working.
- Security fix: dangerous-tools deny lists (owner-only HTTP deny and
  control-plane set) were keyed on the literal "cron", so the renamed tool
  silently lost default-deny and owner-only protection on the HTTP invoke
  surface. Lists now use the canonical constant, and the gateway.tools.allow
  un-deny filter normalizes both sides so legacy allow entries still lift it.
- Voice high-impact confirmation list and MCP serve creator allowlist follow
  the canonical name.

Existing cron-regression suite now proves the legacy path end to end:
default deny 404 for both names, legacy allow entry lifts the deny, and
non-owner protection holds.

* fix(agents): cover stdio MCP legacy calls, probe prompts, and prompt snapshots for the rename

- stdio MCP servers (openclaw-tools-serve / plugin tools handlers) resolve
  legacy "cron" callTool names to the published canonical tool, matching
  the HTTP loopback behavior; listTools stays canonical-only.
- Live probe prompts instruct harnesses to load/call the automations MCP
  tool (mcp__openclaw__automations) instead of the retired name.
- Prompt snapshot fixture filter follows the canonical name (the renamed
  tool had silently dropped out of the Codex dynamic-tools snapshots);
  snapshots regenerated as a clean rename.
- Type-cast the new mcp-http handler test payloads for check-test-types.

* test(agents): update tool-surface expectations for the automations rename

CI-surfaced fallout in shards not covered by the focused local runs: tool
availability, agent-config filtering, coding-tools construction,
model-provider lean policy, and skill dispatch all assert the scheduler
tool's surface name. Mock fixtures and expectations follow the canonical
id; legacy-name coverage stays in the dedicated policy/creator-cap/invoke
regression suites.

* test(gateway): update tool-resolution exclude expectations for automations rename

* test(security): update trust-model audit expectations for automations rename

* docs(agents): declare cron a permanent scheduler-tool alias per owner decision

Maintainer decision (Omar): cron is not being retired anywhere — config keys,
RPC methods, schedule syntax, and the CLI token all keep it, and the tool
alias follows the same permanent contract as bash -> exec. No doctor rewrite
and no removal window; comments updated to state the contract instead of a
deprecation plan.

* chore(agents): regen prompt snapshots after rebase onto main
